Teaching Philosophy

"More important than the curriculum is the question of the methods of teaching and spirit in which teaching is given."

Bertrand Russell

My Teaching Philosophy

My teaching experience to date has found me in both private and public settings, teaching from both technical and conceptual lenses and working with dancers of diverse abilities and backgrounds.

Throughout it all, I’ve come to recognize that dance is more than just a sequence of steps and execution of choreography. Dance is a gateway to greater learning of self, other, and the world around us.

A relational person and “doer” by nature, I thrive when making connections with and serving others. When my students are engaging in discussion, creation, and inquiry I see the seeds of change-makers being planted. Working within a progressive pedagogy that explores the big ideas of interconnectedness, collaboration, adaptability and community, I see the classroom as a place for including a curriculum that cultivates student voice and choice.
